On Oct. 8, the Lunenburg Lightning flag football team took on the Nottoway Gators and was defeated 2-6.
The flag team defense, led by Chad Mattox, Logan Halland Kolby Powers, was strong in the first half only allowing one score by Nottoway.
The halftime score was 6-0 and Lunenburg still had a chance to win.
Nottoway started the second half with another touchdown. The Lightning would answer as Logan Hall broke away for a 30-yard touchdown run to make it 13-6.
Nottoway would add another touchdown late in the game which ended play.
The Lightning varsity team fell 30-7 to the Emporia Renegades on the same day.
Chad Mattox scored on a 35-yard run to tie the game at 6-6 in the first quarter.
Jordan Kiser added the extra point as Lunenburg took the lead 7-6 early in the second quarter.
Logan Hall and Mattox each contributed multiple flag pulls during the first half to keep the Emporia offense in check.

Emporia’s offense was just too much in the second half and the Lightning never caught back up to their score.
