Kenbridge council member Sallie B. Glenn stepped down and Mike Bender has been appointed to finish her term.
Bender, an engineer with Southside Electric, was sworn in by Town Attorney Cal Spencer at the council’s Tuesday, Feb. 16, meeting. Glenn stepped down for personal reasons, Mayor Emory Hodges told the other council members.
“I appreciate you taking on this” challenge, Hodges told Bender. Bender said that he and his wife plan to raise children in Kenbridge.
“We love our town,” he said.
Kenbridge is governed by a mayor and council members, who are elected for two-year terms. Elections for the seven-member council are held in May of even-numbered years.
At the meeting, Hodges reminded his fellow members of the upcoming elections and reminded them that those interesting in running must qualify by early March.
