Former Central High School softball player and Lunenburg Girls Softball all-star Ellie Richmond, pictured at left, is competing as a member of the revived Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) club team. She has been serving as the Panthers’ primary pitcher, starting three out of four games so far. Over the weekend, SVCC (1-3) went 1-1 in a three-team tournament at Lancer Park in Farmville. The Panthers won their first game 13-2 against the club team from the University of Mary Washington. Richmond pitched three of five innings to get the win. She took a loss in SVCC’s second game, as the Panthers fell 10-2 to the club team from Longwood University. Richmond said the experience of playing for the SVCC club team has been great. “Everyone is so supportive and uplifting towards one another,” she said. “Any good player has to admit that it takes a whole team to win a ballgame; it’s not any one person’s responsibility, and I’ve got a great team behind me.”
