Rites Set For Jerry Hall Jones

Jerry Hall Jones, 79, of Petersburg, died Saturday, April 29, 2017. He was the son of the late Sammie Chandler Jones and Helen Gertrude Jones. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sammie Ray Jones.
Born in Mecklenburg County, he attended Buckhorn School and graduated in the final class of Chase City High School in 1955. He received his B.A. degree from Emory and Henry College in 1960 and his law degree from T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond in 1967. He moved to Petersburg to begin his practice of law with the firm of White, Hamilton, Wyche and Shell in 1967. He practiced law until 2005 when he retired to his tomato garden and his family.
He married Betty Wade Blanton, of Victoria, in 1961, a wonderful marriage which lasted 56 years until his death. He is also survived by his children, Sara Elizabeth Hall Hyre and husband, David, J. Hall Jones, Jr. and wife, Alicia, W. Blanton Jones and wife, Delaine; grandchildren, the best ever are, Wade Blanton Jones Jr., William Joseph Jones, Catherine Helen Jones, Lawrence Colgan Jones, Marcus Lawrence Hyre, and Charlotte Elizabeth Hyre; sisters, Hilda Jones Puryear and husband, Jimmy, Nora Gray Jones Walker and husband, Robert Lee, and Anne Jones Rickman and husband, Mike, all of Chase City; and his church family at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Jerry was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and searved several times on session as an Elder.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 Walnut Blvd., Petersburg, VA 23805, with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria.
