The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors is set to present a retirement resolution to County Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Manning and discuss a nomination related to the county’s board of zoning appeals during supervisors’ upcoming meeting Thursday.
The retirement resolution for Manning, originally meant to take place in July, was rescheduled for
August, County Administrator Tracy Gee said recently.
Manning served as a police officer and deputy for Kenbridge and Lunenburg County beginning in the 1980s after serving in the military during the Korean War.
He later became a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) officer in 1992. DARE is a program that teaches students ways to combat peer pressure and drug usage. At the end of the last school year, Manning helped to usher in the DARE program’s 25th graduating class.
A discussion relating to the board of zoning appeals is also on the agenda for the Thursday meeting.
The board packet for the Aug. 10 meeting cited that District Two Supervisor Mike Hankins nominated Paul Perusse, of Kenbridge, to serve as a representative to the board of zoning appeals.
Gee said the board addresses zoning issues for properties in the county. While the volunteer-based board does not meet often, Gee said it most often discusses and votes on large-scale zoning issues that involve the county.
