The inaugural Powers Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Hannah Warren at the Virginia Tech Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC) Tobacco Field Day on July 27. According to a press release, the Powers Memorial Scholarship was established in memory and in honor of the contributions Danny Powers made to agricultural research at the Virginia Tech Southern Piedmont AREC. Warren is a native of Lunenburg County where she was raised on a tobacco farm. She graduated from Park View High School, attended Governor’s School of Southside Virginia, was on the honor roll and has earned an associates of arts and sciences degree from Southside Virginia Community College. Warren is interested in becoming an extension agent after she graduates from Virginia Tech. We congratulate Warren on her achievement and wish her much success in the future.
