Central High School’s junior varsity (JV) girls volleyball team entered the week with a 4-4 record and the confidence of its coach that more wins could be coming.
“We have great potential,” Lady Chargers Head Coach Karen Justice said. “We have the ability to beat any of the teams we have faced so far as long as we show up to each game with our minds right and a working attitude.”
The squad lost five players from last year, with two moving up to the varsity team and three not returning.
The JV roster includes eight freshmen, four sophomores and one eighth-grader.
“I have six returners from last year, but all of my newcomers played last year on the middle school team,” Justice said. “So all of my players have seen volleyball and played it before this year which has never happened before while I have been coaching JV volleyball at (Central). Thus, while they are familiar with the game, we are working on making plays on offense a lot.”
In her third year on the team, sophomore middle hitter Hannah Breedlove is its most experienced player, and as a co-captain with freshman outside hitter Abbey Tomlinson, she is stepping into a leadership role, Justice said.
