Odell Coles

Odell Coles answered the Master’s Call and entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday afternoon December 20, 2018 in South Hill Virginia. He was born in Lunenburg County Virginia on February 12, 1954 to the late Caliph Coles and Alice Coles. He received his education in the public schools of Lunenburg and Mecklenburg Counties and enjoyed growing up with his five sisters and four brothers with whom he had great loving relationships. Odell received Christ at an early age and was active at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Victoria, VA until his health declined. In his early years he worked as a cook and continued his career at the Railway Handle Factory and Fort Pickett. Odell was well known for helping his community by feeding others, providing transportation and donating to them especially from his wonderful large vegetable gardens. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his twin sister, Inell. His nieces and nephews greatly adored and admired him. Odell was preceded in death by his father Caliph Coles, his mother Alice Coles Johnson, his sister Martha Felder, his brothers Roy Coles and Caliph Coles.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his brother Henry Coles (Martha) of Lacrosse, VA sisters Mattie Jones (Waymon) of Farmville, VA, Lillie Brown (Henry) of Blackstone, VA, his beloved twin, Inell Hite of Victoria, VA, David (Alease) of South Hill, VA, and Alice Spence of Suffolk, VA; sister-in-love, Mollie Coles of Blackstone, VA; a Special Friend, Minnie Coles of Farmville, VA; two Daughters, Shirley Hatcher (Carl) of Lynchburg, VA and Sheila Hawthorne of Farmville, VA and three grandchildren; three aunts, Edna Reavis and Tina Gilliam of Richmond, VA, and Martha Ann Burns of Dundas, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and relatives.

A memorial service was held December 29, 2018 in the S.P. Jones Funeral Chapel. Reverend Trava J. Hawkins, Eulogist.
