Sophomore forward Aaliyah Alexander gave Central High School’s varsity girls basketball team representation among the 2018-19 All-Region 1B honors by making the first team.
“I was ecstatic when the results were announced at the meeting,” Lady Chargers Head Coach Scott Wilson said. “The region is a very competitive region, and for Aaliyah to be named to the All-Region 1B first team is such an honor. I couldn’t wait to tell her the news.”
This was Alexander’s first recognition at the regional level for basketball.
“Aaliyah is a well-rounded player in both offense and defense,” Wilson said. “Around the district, she has been primarily known for her defense. However, it was her offensive performances against regional foes,William Campbell and Rappahannock County, that sealed the deal for her being named to the all-region team.”
For the 2018-19 season overall, Alexander averaged 6.1 points, 3.2 steals and 1.3 assists per game. In five games played against regional opponents, her points-per-game average grew to 11.1.
