Willie M. Cooper, son of the late Willie M. Cooper and Mary Gertrude Trotter Cooper was born August 1, 1929 in Brunswick County, VA. He departed this life on January 28, 2020 in Richmond, VA. He was educated in the Brunswick County Public School System.
Mack accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at Piney Grove Baptist Church.
He moved to Braddock, PA where he worked at Carnegie Steel Company until he was drafted into the Army on April 17, 1951. Mack served in the Korean War reaching the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Combat Infantry Badge with 1 bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He was discharged on January 16, 1953. He later retired from Carnegie and started an ice cream truck business in New Jersey. In the early 90’s Mr. Mack moved to Prince George, Virginia where he connected with his friends, family and Piney Grove Baptist Church. He served as a faithful member and Trustee.
He married Gertrude Harrison Gordon on December 23, 1995 and resided in Kenbridge, VA. His loving wife “Trudy” preceded him in death in 2018. Mack was also preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Gloria Sharp: sisters, Barbara Lester and Marie Wallace and one brother, Arthur Cooper Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, John Gordon of (Kenbridge, VA), Sandra Gordon (Kenbridge, VA) Wanda Morrison (Ray) of Kenbridge, VA, Ricky Gordon ( Sheri) of North Chesterfield, VA and one step son-in-law, David Sharp; two sisters, Katherine (Kate) Wynn of Oceanside, CA and Wilma Walters of Braddock, PA; one brother, Alvin Cooper (Gladys) of Lake Mary, FL; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves his and Trudy’s precious dog, Lola.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from Brown’s Memorial Chapel with entombment in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
Brown’s Funeral Service, Lawrenceville, VA was in charge of the arrangements.
