The Town of Victoria Town Council will hold a public hearing on the budget for the coming year Tuesday, May 12, at 7 p.m. The public hearing will be a part of the council’s regular monthly meeting.

In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines, the meeting will be held at the Lunenburg Community Centre located at 1421 6th Street in Victoria. For those who do not wish to attend the meeting, the proceedings will be accessible online through the GoToMeeting platform. Instructions on how to navigate to the meeting will be posted on the town’s website www.victoriava.net and Facebook page.

The town’s proposed budget looks much the same as last years budget. The principle difference on the revenue side is a $50,000 gain in the wastewater fund as a result of a planned wastewater rate increase. The rate increase was approved at the April meeting. A date to implement the increase will be determined by the council at a later meeting. The move by the town to increase the rate was to help fund a future wastewater treatment improvement project that is expected to cost at least $1.5 million. Plans and options for improving the system’s wastewater treatment process were outlined by Town Manager Rodney Newton earlier this year.

The town’s property tax rate is proposed to remain at 18 cents per $100 of accessed value.
