I love ice cream. I can talk about ice cream all day long. I can tell you my favorite locations for ice cream, my favorite flavors, my favorite blends and more. July is National Ice Cream Month. The 19th was National Ice Cream Day. My household treats ice cream as a religious event: honored, sacred, embraced, loved.

Don’t wait until after the meal for dessert. Enjoy dessert first in case you have a heart-a-stroke during the meal that way you didn’t miss dessert. My father-in-law says, “Ice cream doesn’t fill you up, it just fills in the cracks.”

What if we treated ice cream (or enter your favorite item here) the way we treat God? If you are like me, you don’t waste ice cream.

You might even lick the bowl when you are done just to get it all after you have beat that bowl to death with a spoon, scraping every crease to get the last drop. You don’t need napkins because you don’t want even a droplet to be lost. You savor every part. You smile when you think of ice cream, you moan when you begin enjoying ice cream, once it is gone you comment on how good it was. Ice cream just hits the spot.

 “Your name is our favorite word; Your mighty works are all we talk about.” (Psalm 75:1). What if we talked about God, adored God, told others of God as much as we talk about ice cream, sports, shopping, sales, politics, hunting, fishing, our pets? What if God was truly our favorite word? What if God’s goodness was all we wanted to talk about?

Imagine how your home, your work place, your community would change if you began telling and celebrating God as much as I do ice cream.

Revival! Preach it! Wooo!

It’s crazy how we will even tweet or put on Facebook or Instagram immediately pictures of our food or tell of great places we are without thought or care, but we can be hesitant to tell folks of the goodness of God.

Psalm 75 tells of folks proclaiming God’s wonderful actions. Psalm 75:9 tells: “But as for me, I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.”

Let’s become like the psalmists who proclaim their adoration and love for God every chance they get.

Father, Psalm 34:8 challenges us to taste and see that You are good.

May we tell of your goodness for all to hear. Through Jesus we plead. Amen.
