A Lunenburg County drug dealer was sentenced this past week to two decades in prison, the result of an operation involving three law enforcement agencies.
Kristin McWayne Greene, 42, was charged and convicted of nine counts of distribution of cocaine and fentanyl. The Lunenburg County resident was convicted of selling $10,800 worth of narcotics within five weeks to a confidential informant in what law enforcement officers labeled controlled narcotics purchases.
The prosecution was part of a Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force investigation, including deputies from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office. Following the controlled narcotics buys, law enforcement hand delivered the purchased substances to the Department of Forensic Science in Richmond for analysis. At the lab, a forensic scientist conducted both a visual examination and a chemical testing of the substances to determine if the items were in fact controlled substances.
“During two of the controlled narcotics buys, the defendant distributed pills which had the visual appearance consistent with the pharmaceutical preparation for Oxycodone; however, when tested the pills contained Fentanyl,” said Charlotte County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Leslie E. Schneider.
Lunenburg County drug dealer a ‘cautionary tale’
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration website, laboratory testing “indicates 7 out of every 10 pills seized by DEA contain a lethal dose of fentanyl.”
“Let this case serve as a reminder that when you purchase illegal drugs you never know what you are receiving,” Lunenburg Sheriff Arthur Townsend and Charlotte Sheriff Randy Grissom said in a joint statement. “This serves as a reminder of the dangers of illegal narcotics and our commitment to enforcing Virginia’s drug laws.”
It is urged that anyone with information regarding narcotics distribution contact the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at 434-542-5141 or the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office at 434-696-4452
