One person is recovering from gunshot wounds and the suspect in a Lunenburg shooting that happened Tuesday night is in custody today. The call came in to the sheriff’s office at about 7:52 p.m., which is when deputies responded to a report of shots fired on Mecklenburg Street.
When they arrived, deputies found one man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. According to Lunenburg County Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr., the victim was treated on scene by Victoria Fire and Rescue, before being flown by air medical transport to VCU Medical Center. As of Wednesday afternoon, he is still there, receiving treatment.
Following a thorough investigation conducted by the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with state and local partners, Treron Carvel Jones was identified as the primary suspect. Townsend said that Jones was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held with no bond at Piedmont Regional Jail.
Townsend praised the hard work of his deputies, which led to both the arrest and charges filed today.
“Deputies worked through the night to pursue leads, gather evidence, and conduct interviews that ultimately led to the arrest of Jones,” Townsend said. “Their tireless efforts were instrumental in swiftly resolving this dangerous situation.”
Jones now faces one count of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Townsend added that violence has no place in Lunenburg County.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all our residents, and we will continue to pursue justice for the victims of such senseless acts,” he said.
The investigation in this case remains ongoing, Sheriff Townsend said in a statement. Anyone with additional information about the Lunenburg shooting is encouraged to contact the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office at (434) 696-4452.
