Candidates to speak

A forum where members of the public can pose questions and learn about candidates seeking election to the Brown’s Store District seat on the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors will be held Oct. 24.

The forum will start at 7 p.m. at the Kenbridge Community Center’s auditorium.

The upcoming election will have two candidates — Mike Hankins and Wanda Morrison — running for the seat, filling the unexpired term of  former Brown’s Store Supervisor and Kenbridge resident David Wingold Sr., who died in February from infection-related complications following a Jan. 23 surgery to repair a fractured vertebra.

Supervisors voted to appoint Hankins to the Brown’s Store District seat in March in an interim capacity.

Both Hankins and Morrison will appear on the ballot Nov. 7.

Morrison, who grew up in Lunenburg County, served 37 years as a U.S. Army Reserve and aims to generate greater opportunities for young adults in the area and create greater communication between county officials and members of the public, she said in a prior interview.

Hankins is the current vice president of the Lunenburg County Chamber of Commerce and said in a prior interview his aim was to save money for all aspects of the county and work for the county’s best interest.

Community members can submit questions to the candidates prior to the forum by mailing them to P.O. Box 85, Dundas, VA 23938.
