Central High School (CHS) is set to have a night dedicated to college financial aid Thursday.

School staff and representatives from area colleges will focus on helping students and families apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which determines the financial aid that incoming and current college students can receive from colleges and universities.

The Super FAFSA Project will take place in the school library from 4-7 p.m.

The event will include representatives from the financial aid offices of Hampden-Sydney College and Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), Central High School GReat Aspirations Scholarship Program Inc. (GRASP) Adviser Gail Benjamin and Southside Tobacco Region Program Coordinator Paul Farrar with the Tobacco Region Loan Forgiveness Program, who will be on-site to assist and provide information for students and families applying to college and universities.

School Counseling Department Chair Stephanie Powers said this is the second year the school has hosted the event, and said the event will take place during the school’s Parent-Teacher conference.

“CHS students and parents may find it helpful to bring last year’s tax records to help them complete the FAFSA,” Powers said.

A report from the school detailing the event cited that school counselors will also be on hand during the week of Nov. 13-17—Virginia College Application Week—to help students applying to colleges and universities.
