‘They learned a lot’

Kenston Forest School’s young varsity football team had a difficult season that included highly challenging opponents, canceled games due to a lack of healthy Kavalier players and a game stopped midway through due to a faulty transformer. But the Kavs gave their coach plenty of reason to feel good about the year.
“I would say that I look on this season as … being pretty positive because our guys, we have a very young team, and the kids learned a lot,” Kenston Forest Head Coach Tom Inge said. “We also had a lot of inexperienced kids, and we basically only had one senior. … And by the end of the season, we were playing really well. We had some really close games, our last three or four games were very close and could have gone either way. And so I was just really impressed with the kids. They never gave up, and they learned a lot and they’re all excited about really doing something special next year.”
Inge said the Kavaliers’ final overall record for the year was 1-8. The lone win was a reference to the Sept. 29 home game against Grace Christian School that was halted at halftime when a faulty transformer led to some of the lights on the field going out. Kenston Forest held a 14-6 lead when the game was stopped.
When asked who stood out on his team this year, Inge could not help but acknowledge all of his players to start with.
“All of them improved so much,” he said.
When giving more detailed evaluation, he highlighted sophomore slotback Jah’Tavious Houston, junior running back Javon Carter, freshman lineman John Thomas Inge and freshman quarterback Moe Moe Morrison.
“Those four really kind of stood out, but we had so many other kids that really went from not knowing anything about football to being pretty decent by the end of the season,” Coach Inge said. “So anyway, that’s why I’m telling you this is a special bunch of kids that never gave up.”
