Howard Percell Jones was born June 15, 1944 to Robert, Jr. and Emily Andrews Jones in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

Howard joined New Grove Baptist Church at an early age and dedicated his life to the Lord. He joined the Senior Choir and was active in services and activities where he could share his gifts and talents.

Howard was educated in the Lunenburg County public schools where he developed a love for both carpentry and masonry. He successfully mastered these skills and it afforded him the opportunity to live and work in many different states in the Mid-Atlantic region. During the early years of his career, he worked on various construction and highway projects in and around Virginia and Southern New Jersey. As his professional network developed, he and his close colleagues worked on many federal, corporate, and residential projects in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. One of those projects included the expansion of Highway 66 & Interstate 95 corridors of Virginia from rural farms and grasslands to developed suburbs filled with both residential and corporate infrastructure. Howard also served as a public building inspector in Dumfries, Virginia.

Howard purchased three commercial dump trucks to provide services within the state of Virginia after his tenure as public building inspector. He provided delivery services and snow removal services to parts of Prince William, Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties. He continued to operate his dump truck business until his health began to decline in 2016. He was recognized as one of the oldest and most reliable service providers in the Fredericksburg area.

Howard had many hobbies, and like his dad he loved to tinker with old cars and had a special skill for “fixing things.” He loved motorcycles and would spend much of his free time riding with friends, club members and often shared his passion with his family. Howard traveled to many states for special biker’s events, including Florida and Canada. One of those memorable riding experiences was a two-week cross-country motorcycle trip to Las Vegas for the National Bikers roundup.

Howard departed this earth on Oct. 24, 2017 to be with the two parents that loved him so dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert, Jr. and Emily A. Jones.

Howard leaves to cherish his memories a wife, friend and companion, Calvene; three children from his first marriage (Pearl) and three step-children; Christina Jones of Mount Rainer, Maryland; Vanessa Jones of Randallstown, Maryland, Bonita Jones of Bowie Maryland; Jeanine Johnson of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Anthony Johnson of Danville, Virginia; and Myrna Johnson of Fredericksburg, Virginia; ten grandchildren; Erica Jones, Charles Dickens, Reginald Harris, II, Alan-Michael and Shannon Meyers, Tiara, Brendon, Brianna, Janessa and Makayla Johnson; two great-grandchildren; Tyzhaya and Benaiah Jones; five sisters; Falor Harris (Fred) of Union New Jersey, Daisy Walker and Rosa Hubbard (Richard) both of South Hill, Virginia; Audrey Bragg (Errol) of Seabrook, Maryland and Gloria Jones of Laurel, Maryland; one brother, Otis Jones (Pam) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; three aunts, Dorothy Cabiness, Sue Loperl and Otelia Jones (the oldest known surviving family member at 99 years old); a host of friends and colleagues that are close to the family unit.

Funeral services were held Nov. 1, 1 p.m. at New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge with The Rev. Dr. Curtis W. Bagley, Jr., B.S., M.Div., D.D. pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery.
