Mr. John Hart Wells

Mr. John Hart Wells, age 82, of Victoria, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 in VCU/Community Memorial Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army, a member of the North Carolina

National Guard, served as Director of Instruction and Assistant Superintendent of Lunenburg County Public Schools from 1967 – 1990. John also taught at Buckhorn

Elementary School and held principalships at Boydton and La Crosse Elementary Schools. He graduated from Ferrum Jr. College, received his B.A. degree from Atlantic Christian College and his M.A. from Longwood. He completed additional graduate studies at the College of William And Mary and the University of Virginia. John’s interest included genealogy and the early history and culture of the Indians of Southside Virginia. He served as President of the Roanoke River Archeological Society and as Director of the Virginia Archaeological Society.

John is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years Gladys George Wells, his son David Wells and wife Katrina of Victoria, two daughters; Laura Wells of Chester and Janine W. Conley and husband David of Chesterfield, four grandchildren; Katlyn Moseley (Bobby), Hunter Wells (Jenna), Autumn Daniel and Violet Daniel, three great grandchildren; Kelly and Kerri Moseley and Gunner Wells.

A funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home with interment in Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lunenburg Health Services, 1428 6th Street ., Victoria, Va. 23974.
