Central High School’s junior varsity (JV) girls and boys basketball teams opened the 2018 portion of their 2017-18 schedules with losses to their opponents from Prince Edward County High School on Jan. 3.
The Lady Chargers suffered a 21-16 road loss, falling to 3-3 for the season so far.
Central’s JV boys team struggled significantly in its game against the visiting Eagles, ultimately falling 56-17. The loss dropped its record to 0-6.
Mike McGrath, head coach of Central’s varsity boys basketball squad, noted that the JV boys team lacks experienced players.
“Our main problem with them is we’ve got six kids who’ve never played basketball before, so they’re learning,” he said. “And when you play teams that want to press you the whole game, makes it kind of tough on them.”
Due to inclement weather, the Chargers and Lady Chargers were not able to play against Amelia on Friday or William Campbell on Monday.
On Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., Central’s JV girls team is set to visit Nottoway, and Central’s JV boys team will host the Cougars.
