It’s a new year, there’s new life and the first birth bragging rights at the new Garland Birthing Center in South Hill go to Shannon Foster and Deshon Crawley, of Skipwith, with the birth of their daughter Zadie Luella.

Baby Zadie was the first baby of the new year born at the Garland Birthing Center arriving at 1:29 p.m. on Jan. 2. Delivered by Obstetrician/Gynecologist Cynthia Austin, M.D., Zadie weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 19 inches at birth.

As VCU Health CMH’s first baby of 2018, Zadie was showered with gifts from the hospital which included a beautiful yellow and white baby blanket with “First Baby Born in 2018” embroidered on it.

With the opening of The Garland Birthing Center on Oct. 20, VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital is proud to again provide obstetrical care for new and expecting parents in a comfortable environment that is close to home.

The Garland Birthing Center offers LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) suites that are spacious and provide a comfortable setting for mom, baby and family. The unit is staffed by professional nurses who are specially trained in obstetric, newborn and gynecologic nursing. The physicians and nurses strive to provide quality care to their patients in a personalized, family-centered atmosphere.

The new VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital is located at 1755 N. Mecklenburg Ave. in South Hill. To learn more, visit VCU-CMH.org.
