Lunenburg County saw approximately seven inches of snow last Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service cited, and the snowfall affected school schedules, town services and residents.

The winter weather led to the cancellation of school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Lunenburg County Public Schools (LCPS) announced on its social media page.

Potential make-up days are set to be discussed this week, LCPS Superintendent Charles Berkley said.

“We have missed seven snow days and several early dismissal days due to water issues in the Town of Victoria,” Berkley said. “Make-up days will be discussed this week, with any decisions to be announced in the very near future.”

The weather also had an impact on the residents and services of the towns of Victoria and Kenbridge, the town managers cited.

Victoria Town Manager Rodney Newton said town services had been stopped as a result of the snowfall last Wednesday and Thursday.

“We did have around seven inches of snow with roads remaining dangerous through Friday,” Newton said.

He said that to address danger on the roads, the town had worked with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to clear snow.

Lunenburg County Administration was similarly halted Thursday and in a social media post, officials cited that the Nutbush and Rocky Mill convenience sites had also been closed Thursday.

“If you are required to travel, please take your time and be cautious. Driving conditions are treacherous,” the post cited.

The Town of Kenbridge similarly faced challenges following the snow and winter weather.

A water main leak Thursday that had left some in the town temporarily without water and has since been repaired was connected with the winter weather, Kenbridge Town Manager Robyn Fowler confirmed.

A social media post by the Town of Kenbridge on Thursday cited that a water leak on E. 5th Avenue had taken place.

“Repairs on a water leak on E. 5th Avenue will begin shortly,” the post cited. “Residents in the area may have time periods of having little or no water … We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.”

Fowler said Thursday that the leak had been repaired shortly after noon.

“It was repaired by 12:30,” Fowler said.
