An 8-17 season for Kenston Forest School’s varsity girls basketball concluded with a lopsided loss to Banner Christian School in the Virginia Colonial Conference (VCC) tournament semifinals, but all-conference accolades added a bright spot to the end of the season.

Lady Kavaliers seniors Indigo Dougherty and Josie Epperson were named to the All-VCC first team. Dougherty also made the all-tournament team. Freshman Molly Epperson made the All-VCC second team, and junior Emily Hawthorne was named to the all-academic team.

“I thought we were very well represented within the conference,” Kenston Forest Head Coach Jannon Coley said.

Across 24 games, Dougherty averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.4 steals. Josie Epperson averaged 8.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and one steal per game.

Across 21 games, Molly Epperson averaged 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Coley noted she will remember the 2017-18 season as a challenging one for the Lady Kavs, “but I think we held our own. We had a young team and did fairly well … We ended up fourth in the conference out of seven teams, and I don’t think we did bad at all.”

She said the team had to endure a lot of sickness, and she pulled up two or three young junior varsity players for part of the season.

“At one point I had three of my five starters out,” she said.

The Lady Kavs should return most of their team next season.
