A concentration of underclassmen help define Central High School’s varsity outdoor track and field program this year, while some seniors help lead the way.

The Central girls team features one senior, five juniors, six sophomores and one freshman, while the boys team includes two seniors, three juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen.

Among the standouts for the Lady Chargers this season has been senior Zakiyyah Hurt. She has shined in the girls long jump and girls 100-meter hurdles.

Joining Hurt on the team are juniors Briana Elder, Haley Hayer, Ladasha Robertson, Jakeriah Spraggins and Khristie Streat, sophomores Kendra Alexander, Cszariah Eggleston, Savanna Fowler, Diamonie Graham, Na’Kihya Ragsdale and Trinity Williams and freshman Asia Crawley.

Among the standouts for the Central boys team this season has been sophomore Shamond Sellers. He has gained notice in the boys 110-meter hurdles.

The boys team includes seniors Malik Glasgow and Kahmell Roberts, juniors Khalil Moore, Geontra Ragsdale and Nehemiah Wood, sophomores Justin Hall, Jonathan Hatchett, Vernon Jackson, Trey Patterson III, Kawonte Ragsdale and Sellers and freshmen Colby Crowder, Cameron Kates and Tyler McGrath.

Central’s girls and boys teams return to action Wednesday when they face Nottoway High School and host Goochland High School in a meet set to start at 4:30 p.m.
