Soft opening for tearoom, cafe

Rosewood Virginia, which houses two tearooms and a cafe at 11426 Courthouse Road, across from the Lunenburg County Courthouse, opened this week.
Paul Davies, who owns the cafe and tearoom, said the store held its first tea booking on Saturday, with the cafe officially opening Monday.
“We had our first afternoon tea booking May 5th and had a very nice turnout,” Davies said.
A menu from the store’s Facebook page has everything from sandwiches with pimento cheese, and sandwiches with grilled bacon blackberry swiss and jalapeno on sourdough, to specialty teas such as Bai Mudan, a tea described on the Rosewood Virginia Facebook page as “a type of white tea made from plucks each with one leaf shoot and two immediate young leaves of the camellia sinensis plant.”
And of course the menu comes full circle with a choice of either single serve or double serve ice cream cones.
Davies said there are two tearooms within Rosewood Virginia.
He said the Gold tearoom is more formal and sophisticated, with paintings lining the walls and a fireplace at one corner. The Gold tearoom can seat up to 10 guests.
The other tearoom, the Birdhouse, is described as having a more relaxed atmosphere, but it’s no less carefully decorated with a booth made to look like several wooden birdhouses. This room can sit up to 18, Davies said.
“We served 18 guests on Saturday serving two different teas, scones with a blackberry cream, a selection of sandwiches, quiche and three different deserts including orange pistachio Blondie’s and German chocolate truffles,” Davies said. “Everyone had a lovely time and enjoyed the food and teas.”
He described the Monday opening as a soft opening, and said a grand opening is in the works within the next month.
