Central High School’s varsity softball team drew recognition from coaches in the region after reaching the Region 1B semifinals and finishing 11–8 in 2018. That recognition came in
the form of six all-region selections, including two on the first team.
Lady Chargers senior pitcher Hailey Bayne and senior outfielder Kaylee Williams made the first team. Central players named to the second team included junior
first baseman Riley Long, sophomore utility player Sorie Scott and freshman outfielder Aaliyah Alexander. Central senior second baseman Brittany Tomlinson received honorable mention.
“I was very pleased with our recognition,” Lady Chargers Head Coach Karen McGrath said.
Bayne has been named to the all-region second team in previous years, but this is her first time making the first team. “She deserves it,” McGrath said. “She constantly works to improve her game.” Bayne, who has committed to play for Lynchburg College next year, threw more than 194 strikeouts this season, and on offense, she produced a very compet–
itive batting average.
Williams continued this year to draw awards for her play after receiving all–conference and all-region honors in the past. “This is the second year in a row that she has had a perfect fielding percentage in center field,” McGrath said. “... She also made several incredible catches during the regional game against Riverheads that were definitely notable.”
