Members of the Victoria Town Council are set to hold a public hearing about purchasing a police vehicle on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
The meeting will be held 7 p.m. at the Victoria Municipal Building.
The council is set to file an application for grant funding from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program.
“We will be purchasing another Dodge Charger similar to the two that we already have,” Newton said.
During the council’s November meeting, Newton said council members voted to adopt policy relating to a decision by the Victoria Police Department to purchase body cameras.
Newton said the police department chose to purchase body cameras to help create a more transparent department. He said the decision was a proactive move by the chief.
“The policy provides the police officers and supervisors with guidance as to when the cameras will be worn and used,” Newton said. “The storage of data, who has access to the data, and how long data will be kept.”
