Lunenburg resident Lucy Ellen Gee, 85, was found on Christmas Day after being reported missing, due to the efforts of police, family members, trained personnel and volunteers who led the efforts to search for her.

The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office first reported Gee missing Tuesday morning. She was “last seen in her home on 12/24/2018 at 10 p.m. on Lunenburg County Road in Lunenburg County.”

Virginia State Police, on behalf of the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, issued an alert at 3 p.m. Tuesday for Gee.

According to Virginia State Police, Gee suffers from a cognitive impairment and “the disappearance poses a credible threat to (Gee’s) health and safety.”

Gee was described as a black female, 5 foot 3 inches, 189 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair.

State Police said Gee was last seen wearing light blue pants, white/black striped coat, black hat with fur and black boots.

Town Manager Rodney Newton reported Tuesday afternoon that trained personnel were searching for Gee. He encouraged residents to share social media posts from the sheriff’s office about Gee. For those who live on Lunenburg County Road, Newton encouraged them to search the surrounding area and outbuildings.

The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office announced that Gee had been found shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Newton said after Gee was found, she was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

State Police canceled the senior alert Tuesday evening.

Sheriff Arthur Townsend, Tuesday evening, thanked those who helped search for Gee in a social media post. This included volunteers who brought food, beverages and support to the search team.

“I would personally like to thank the Virginia State Police, Victoria Fire and Rescue, the multiple dog teams from several departments, Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the search and rescue teams from across the state,” Townsend said. “I would also like to thank the wonderful volunteers that brought everyone food and beverages today. We cannot thank you enough for all of your support and contributions.”
