Central High School’s varsity girls basketball team earned its fourth win of the season Monday when it took down visiting William Campbell High School, 33-28, avenging a 37-32 road defeat against the Lady Generals suffered Jan. 23.
Lady Chargers Head Coach Scott Wilson said Tuesday his team learned from the Jan. 23 game “that we let one slip away. (We) knew that we should have come home with the victory. This motivated them last night.”
The coach pointed to three factors that were particularly important to Monday’s victory.
First, sophomore forward Aaliyah Alexander poured in a career-high 20 points.
Second, Central made 8-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Third, the Lady Chargers played good defense.
Alexander also led her team with three steals, while sophomore forward Asia Crawley grabbed nine rebounds and took a key charge late in the final period.
“Nyasia Tate, Daysha Logan and Savanna Fowler gave the team great quality minutes late in the third quarter and early in the fourth …” Wilson said.
