The Homeless Solutions Program from STEPS Inc. is set to be on the agenda during the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday at 6 p.m.

A letter included in the meeting board packet from STEPS provides a certification of local government approval for nonprofit organizations receiving Virginia Homeless Solutions Program (VHSP) funds from state subrecipients.

The letter comes with a request for the county to sign the form in support of STEPS receiving VHSP funding for Fiscal Year 2019-2020.

The nonprofit provides three types of homeless solution services, which include programs related to homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing in the event that people become homeless and need immediate assistance, and shelter.

Amy Beatson, vice president of program services for STEPS, said in a previous interview that STEPS received funding to support its homeless solutions services at the beginning of the fiscal year in July 2018. In just a few short months, Beatson said they had nearly exhausted all of their funding due to the volume of need in the region.

STEPS served more than 150 individuals since July 2018 in its programs to prevent homelessness, representatives of the organization cited. Of those 150, STEPS estimates that 50 percent were children.
