Kenston Forest School’s varsity boys basketball team had been demonstrating good teamwork as of late as it entered the Virginia Colonial Conference (VCC) tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night, visiting Tidewater Academy.

The Kavaliers (7-16, 4-9 VCC) are fresh off a strong performance against dominant host Banner Christian School on Friday.

“It actually went really great,” Kavs Head Coach Rachel Bartasavich said. “We were playing Banner, and we were actually only down by a point at the half and really battling. Then Moe Moe Morrison went down with a knee injury, and then, of course, because of … all (our) other injuries and illnesses, we were in foul trouble. But they kept their heads up, so it was a good game.”

Kenston Forest was competitive in the 91-65 defeat.

On Feb. 12, the Kavaliers visited archrival Brunswick Academy and returned home with a 54-49 victory.

“My understanding is … that’s the first time that Kenston has beat Brunswick Academy since 2013,” Bartasavich said.

She highlighted what the key was that enabled the Kavs to end the six-year drought.

“They’re really coming along — teamwork,” she said of her players. “It’s actually been amazing to watch the progression that they’ve made from the beginning of the season till now and the way they work with each other.”
