Community concert set

On Friday, March 8, Victoria Baptist Church will host the sixth in the series of Lunenburg County Community Concerts. The evening’s entertainment will begin at 6:40 p.m. with pre-concert music provided by pianist Stacy Sharpe Branch. At 7 p.m., the concert will commence with three sets of talented local musicians and singers.

Mark Queensberry and Vern Otey have been playing together for many years and enjoy an eclectic mix of music. Queensberry was born and raised in Lunenburg County. He started music at the age of 6 and was a member of the Clark Family and Friends musical group in the 70s. Currently he is a self-employed carpenter who resides in Meherrin. Otey was also raised in Lunenburg where he began playing the piano at a young age. Later in life Otey learned to play the guitar and harmonica. He retired from Southside Electric Cooperative after 31 years of service.

Lauren Lawson Atkinson is also a native of Lunenburg County. Her love of music began at a young age and she is known for singing within her community and local churches. She uses her talent as a way to share the gospel through music and enjoys getting to minister to others.

Steven Hurt is a 1982 graduate of Central High School and participated in basketball, baseball and football during his school years. Steven has held the post of Minister of Music for several churches over the years and enjoys ministering through songs; many have been blessed by his ministry. He will be bringing the Cellar Creek Baptist Church Youth Choir to share in the concert. This energetic group has been singing and praising God together for 15 years.

The concerts are free and open to the public. In case of inclement weather, the concert will take place Friday, March 15. Victoria Baptist Church is located at the intersection of Eighth Street and Washington Avenue. Handicapped parking is available near the side entrance, as is elevator access to the sanctuary level.
