After a detailed process at nearly two years in the making, members of the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted to approve the revised comprehensive plan Thursday.

The towns of Kenbridge and Victoria approved the comprehensive plan during their March meetings.

The Lunenburg comprehensive plan outlines the county’s goals and vision.

The process to revise the county’s comprehensive plan, which had not been updated since 2012, began in the summer of 2017.

Commonwealth Regional Council (CRC) Executive Director Melody Foster attended the Thursday meeting and congratulated the board on the plan. Foster said the board’s approval finalizes the comprehensive plan.

“I really thank the committee that did a lot of work on this plan over the last two years,” Foster said. “We really appreciate you all giving us the opportunity to work with you on this plan.”

Foster said a modification of the plan includes removing S&M Brands, STEPS and Oak Valley Hardwoods as employers in the county, as the Lunenburg locations are no longer in business.

County Planner Glenn Millican described the comprehensive plan adoption as a highlight of the year.
