Lightning struck a home in Dundas, causing a fire and heavy damage to the property, according to the Chief of the Kenbridge Fire Department.

The fire at the one-story brick residence took place on Friday, June 28, at 1930 Blue Bird Road, Dundas, located in Brunswick County. The fire occurred at 5:20 p.m.

The property was owned by Michael Forbes.

Kenbridge Fire Department Chief Richard “Dickie” Harris said the fire didn’t damage the home completely, but he said the house sustained a fair amount of damage.

He said there were no occupants at home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be lightning striking the house, Harris said.

He went on to say that the Kenbridge Fire Department responded with 18 personnel and four pieces of equipment. The Alberta Volunteer Fire Department responded with six personnel and two pieces of equipment. The Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department responded with six personnel and two pieces of equipment. Harris said he appreciated the combined efforts of Alberta, Lawrenceville and Kenbridge.

Harris said crewmembers were on scene for nearly two-and-a-half hours.
