Schools recently opened for Lunenburg County, and students have begun the new year knowing that they are on track for success.

School Superintendent Charles Berkley recently noted that he was extremely proud of Lunenburg County Schools and the results. “Our students are meeting the federal, state and local requirements for accreditation for the second year.”

To be accredited, the students must have passing test scores in reading/language arts, math, science and history. This says a lot, not only for the students but for the teachers who spend days and weeks teaching students these needed skills.

“For our schools to accomplish this goal, it took a combination of things to come together.” Berkley continued, “to be successful we had to have the correct lesson plans, the right curriculum, correct data, attendance by the students, work as a team by the entire school administration and teachers, parental involvement, good leadership, quality teachers and the correct student to teacher ratio.”

As the superintendent noted, everyone in the school system plays a role in helping students in Lunenburg succeed. From the bus drivers who transport the student’s day in and day out, to the custodians that keep the schools clean and the cafeteria workers who come in early each morning to prepare the day’s lunches.

We commend Lunenburg County Schools on a job well done and thank Berkley for pointing out that it does take a village to help students succeed.
