Robyn Fowler is leaving her position as the Kenbridge Town Manager after five years to take a job at Fort Pickett’s Foreign Affairs Security Training Center, known by the acronym FASTC.

Her last day will be Thursday, Oct. 31.

“I have enjoyed my time with the town of Kenbridge and I learned a lot from my experience as town manager,” she said recently in an email. “I appreciate the mayor’s, town council’s and especially the town employees’ support during my tenure.”

Fowler said she considered her major achievements as town manager were varied and all predicated on help from the mayor, town council and town employees. They included getting the town’s first-ever website online (www.kenbridgeva.net); new gateway signs installed as you enter Kenbridge; completion of the pump station project, which consisted of replacing and rehabbing pump stations and installation of some new sewer lines; begin the U.S. Route 637 sewer extension project, which will see bids for construction opened next month; updated and put online the Town Charter and Codes; secured a grant for the farmers market pavilion to be built; and have addressed blighted properties more aggressively.

“There are other projects I am sure, but these are some of the major items we achieved,” she said.

A May 2008 report to Congress identified the need for a consolidated foreign affairs security training facility to improve training efficiency, decrease operating costs, and provide priority access to training venues that meet current facility standards.

To achieve these goals, the Department of State is constructing FASTC at Fort Pickett and on adjacent property near Blackstone. FASTC will provide lifesaving security training to Department of State personnel and members of the foreign affairs community.
