The Lunenburg Board of Supervisors approved conditional use permits for development of a residential group home and a bed and breakfast during its Feb. 11 meeting

Following public hearings, the board signed off Timothy Dow and New Generation Youth Services’ plan to operate a youth residential group home at 143 Unity Road in Kenbridge. Owned by Ulysses Jones, the property previously had an active conditional use permit to operate an adult residential facility.

Clyde Morgan, a representative of the organization, said facility will serve children between 13 and 17 years old, and it will house no more than eight residents.

Morgan said the location “will give the children a place to play,” but when they are outside or in the community they will be supervised by staff.

Being in the county will also keep the funding that comes to the organization in Lunenburg, he said.

Meanwhile, the board agreed to let Sarah and Collin Brown operate a bed and breakfast at 11586 Courthouse Road in Lunenburg. The approximately nine-acre property is currently owned by James and Kittrell Elseasser, who are downsizing and moving into a smaller house elsewhere on the property. The couple is buying the property and plan to live there.

“Our ultimate goal (is) to operate a wedding venue there,” Sarah Brown said. “It’s too much home for just us.”
