Lunenburg County has announced a confirmed COVID-19 case.

The announcement from Lunenburg County Emergency Management posted on the county Facebook page shortly before noon Monday, April 6 stated the patient is a male in his 50s. The post said the county was informed of the case by the Virginia Department of Health.

No further information is being provided about the case to protect patient confidentiality.

Lunenburg was one of the last counties in the state to have a confirmed case of COVID-19. Currently, only 14 counties have not had a diagnosed case of the coronavirus.    Statewide, there are 2,878 positively reported cases of COVID-19 as of Monday morning’s update. Of those, 497 people have been hospitalized and 54 people have died.          The area received some good news Monday morning as a new model from the University of Washington showed the peak day for COVID-19 cases in Virginia will be April 20. That’s earlier than expected, with a lower number of cases and deaths than in previous models.

The total deaths in Virginia are now projected to be just over 1,400. Earlier projections placed the figure at more than 3,000.
