In late March, members and friends of the William Taylor Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution visited the grave of distinguished Lunenburg citizen William Taylor (1738-1820), for whom the chapter is named.  The grave is one of several located in a cemetery on the property of chapter member Janie Catherine Bishop Ali, at right of the first row. Several members of the chapter are direct descendants of William Taylor. Taylor represented Lunenburg in the Virginia House of Burgesses, served in the American Revolution and was clerk of the court in Lunenburg from 1763 until 1814, a span of 51 years. The cemetery, which has recently been cleared of debris, is rich in old plantings of periwinkle and irises. Members of the William Taylor Chapter are residents of Brunswick, Mecklenburg and Nottoway counties, as well as Lunenburg.
