The Sunday School lesson “Faith in God’s Purpose” was based on Habakkuk 1:5-2:5 & 2:1-5 Habakkuk was a prophet during the Babylonian conquest of Egypt and Assyria. Habakkuk was troubled by the rise of Babylon, an evil empire that was becoming the next world leader. Habakkuk brought his concerns directly to God and asked why the wicked were not punished for their sins. Habakkuk could not understand why a just God would allow such things to happen, and we ask the same question today: how can a loving God permit evil to exist?

Despite his question, Habakkuk never lost his faith in God. Similarly, when we face challenging times, we may wonder where God is, especially when we hear about hunger, homelessness, violence, and other injustices. However, we can trust that God sees everything and that nothing happens without His knowledge. Like Habakkuk, we must wait patiently for an answer from God, even when it takes time. This waiting period can teach us patience, a gift from God.

God can use each of us to spread His Word and let people know He is alive and has prepared a place for us in heaven. Our lives can speak louder than words as God’s light shines through us, drawing others to Him. We can see God’s changes in us as we reflect on our lives. May we continue to shine for God.
