Shirley Jenkins Garrett, of Victoria, went home to be with her Lord on April 16. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Clyde Garrett; parents, William Kermit and Dorothy Noel Jenkins; sister, Marian Rothrock; brothers, William Jenkins and Latane Jenkins; niece, Anne Robb and nephew, Alan O’Brien.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Blaine and Janet Garrett of Glen Allen and two granddaughters, Jordan Garrett of Virginia Beach and Alexandra Garrett of Richmond. Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Will Braithwaite of Midlothian; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Chris Jenkins of Chesterfield; sister-in-law, Irma Jenkins of Abilene and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley was born August 17, 1932, in Crewe, where she lived until 1969 when her husband’s employment was transferred to Victoria. She was employed by Lunenburg Department of Social Services until her retirement in 1995. After retirement, she served on the Lunenburg Social Services Board of Directors. Shirley was a long-time member of Victoria Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being in the adult choir. She loved shopping, playing bridge with friends, traveling with the Virginia Ramblers and family time at the beach. But she most cherished being Mimi to “her girls”.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 23, at Victoria Baptist Church in Victoria. Interment at Crewe Cemetery, Crewe. Please consider memorials to Victoria Baptist Church, Victoria Fire and Rescue, or a charity of your choice.
