Lunenburg County played host to a number of national visitors this past week. Fifth District Congressman Bob Good, along with Pennsylvania Congressman Scott Perry and South Carolina Congressman Ralph Norman all dropped by for a visit on Friday, having lunch over at La Victoria Mexican Restaurant.
The trio answered questions and talked about both what has been happening in the House of Representatives and what’s expected in the next Congressional session. After that, there was a trip to Kenbridge, with a tour of Three Rivers Treatment Center. Congressman Good also stopped by Central High and was given a student-led tour of the multiple projects they have going on.
Coordinated by Central High History teacher Alan Hershberger, the tour was led by seniors Maxi Alvarez, Olivia Dunbar, Luther Drummond and Kaleigh Jeter. Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors member Mike Hankins also took the tour with Good.
The tour stopped by Central High’s Carpentry Shop, where students have been building a shed for a local family. They also explored the school’s Green House, currently open Mondays and Wednesdays to the public from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and plenty of flowers for sale.
The group also had time to step in and observe Central’s marketing class, where students are learning about investing and the stock market. As we mentioned back in the fall, a team from Central High competed against an estimated 1700 other schools statewide and took first place in ‘The Stock Market Game’. Good also visited the school’s brand new Yoga Club, attended a Kindness Matters Club meeting and learned about the student-led printing operation happening on campus.
