It started in the morning hours with a parade, wrapping its way through 5th Street before eventually ending up at the Town Park. Then once at the park, there was food, activities for families of all ages and some animals to pet. Saturday, July 13 marked this year’s July Jubilee in the Town of Kenbridge, one that town officials were extremely proud of, both for the number of things offered and for the turnout.
“We thought the event was a huge success and really appreciate all of the hard work our behind the scenes people put in,” said Kenbridge Town Manager Tony Matthews. “Events like this help to bring our community together and everyone should take advantage of the opportunities when available.”
As mentioned, things got rolling with the parade, a new addition this year. It featured the Kenbridge Fire Department as well as traditional parade floats. Cars, tractors, golf carts, and bicycles also joined as part of the parade procession. The parade entries were decorated by local businesses and citizens who registered to participate.
Then over at the Town Park, another addition awaited residents. The town brought in a petting zoo for the first time, much to the delight of children, who spent time going between the animals, so that none of them felt left out.
Matthews also just tipped his hat to all of the work put in to make this year’s event happen. As a town-run event, the July Jubilee takes months of preparation for Kenbridge officials, volunteers, and event participants around the community. The process for putting together the Independence Day event includes obtaining sponsors, advertising, vendor sign-up, event layout, and securing the DJ and other entertainment acts. And now that it’s over, it’s time to look ahead to more events, both coming up later this year and then in 2025.
“The vendors had a great day, the food was delicious, the soccer was entertaining and the crowd was booming,” Matthews said. “We thank everyone for their support and look forward to hosting this event next year!!!”
