As dictated by the town charter, Kenbridge Town Council held its reorganizational meeting at 8 p.m. Friday, welcoming the return of Mike McGrath and selecting Ken Blackburn to remain as vice mayor.

During the meeting, which lasted about 15 minutes, the council also reappointed Robyn Fowler as town manager and town clerk, reappointed Cal Spencer as town attorney and reappointed fellow council member Raymond Hite as police chief.

Council also discussed committee appointments and accepted fuel bids.

There was no swearing-in ceremony, though there may be one later. Mayor Emory Hodges and Hite did not attend the meeting.

McGrath returned to the board after being among the top vote-getters in the May election. He takes over the spot of Thomas Palmore, a long-serving member who was the only one of the board’s six other members who chose not to seek another term. Hodges has noted McGrath “will be an asset to this board.”

D.K. “Ken” Blackburn, C.A. “Cathy” Gilley, Hite, D.G. “Danny” Thompson and Michael Bender were all re-elected. Bender joined the council in late February when he was appointed to finish the term of Sallie B. Glenn when she stepped down.

Hodges said the town will honor Palmore for his time on the board at an upcoming meeting. maybe this month or in August.

Hodges also earlier suggested the council change the charter to drop the requirement for the 8 p.m. July 1 reorganizational meeting.
