Motorcyclist killed in Independence Day weekend crash

Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Lunenburg County over the Independence Day weekend that killed a 55-year-old Meherrin man.
Michael W. Jeffreys died at the scene of the crash, according to state police.
The crash occurred Friday, July 1, on Route 684, west of Route 701, state police say.
The crash is being investigated by Trooper T.W. Reeves Jr.
Police say the 1988 Honda Pro Link R motorcycle was traveling along Route 684 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Jeffreys, who was operating the motorcycle, died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, the state police press release stated.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The death is one of eight traffic fatalities state police responded to over the July 4th weekend across the state.
