The Rev. Clifton Garland Bagley (mostly called Garland by family and friends) departed this life on July 7, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Garland was born on Sept. 19, 1952. He was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. F.H. Bagley Sr.

Rev. Bagley received his education in Lunenburg County Public Schools. He also attended the Virginia Seminary and College (renamed Virginia University of Lynchburg), where he majored in Religious Studies.

Rev. Bagley was baptized at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, in Kenbridge, and remained a member there until his death. He was licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel Ministry under the late Rev. Dr. H.R. Watkins Sr.

Garland was employed by the Town of Kenbridge for several years. He also worked as a handy man around town doing all types of landscaping service for many years. Garland loved to watch wrestling and westerns.

He had an excellent memory for names, dates and facts. Often his family called him “the unofficial mayor of Kenbridge,” because he seemed to always know who was doing what, where and how. He will definitely be remembered for his quick-wit responses concerning most topics in life. However, he was a giving, caring and helpful man at all times. He was proceeded in death by his parents and two older brothers (Robert Jones and the Rev. F.H. Bagley Jr.).

Rev. Bagley leaves to cherish his memories: A devoted sister, lifetime friend and caregiver, the Rev. Dr. Irene B. Allen (Ricky); a daughter, Tameka Beasley; and eight grandchildren, who he always tried to help; five nephews and four nieces, lovingly called him “Uncle G,” one great-grandchild; one sister-in-law (Julia Jones); 14 great-grand nieces and seven great-grand nephews; a long-time lady friend, Blaze Zeller Tisdale; and a host of cousins, friends and other relatives.
