The county is considering constructing new counter cabinets as a way to address security concerns at the Lunenburg County Clerk of Circuit Court’s Office.
The clerk contends that low counters in the clerk’s office permit visitors to make unwelcome physical contact with staff, so the county is researching options for taller cabinets, County Administrator Tracy Gee told the members of the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors at their Thursday, July 14 meeting.
The county is considering installing taller cabinet tops that range from approximately $5,400-$5,800.
“I don’t want to let this fall to the wayside because it has been going on for a while,” Gee said.
The cabinets will preferably be consistent with the courthouse design.
The county had spoken to companies about installing bulletproof glass, Gee said, but “none of them are close to what we could afford.”
