We’ve got a lot going on over the next few days. There’s a community concert on Friday, the farmers market is open Saturday, as is the town pool in Victoria. Then on Sunday, the Historical Society will officially move into their new home. The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Wednesday. JULY 18 

VICTORIA POOL OPEN — The Town of Victoria’s public pool will be open on Friday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A daily pass is $10.

COMMUNITY CONCERT – The Town of Victoria will hold a community concert featuring Grammy Award winner Redd Volkaert, who has recorded with Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. This will take place on Friday, July 18, running from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Victoria Community Center, located at 1421 6th Street in Victoria. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased either at the Victoria Town Office or at the event. 

AA MEETING – There will be an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on Friday, July 18 at the Victoria Public Library, located at 1417 7th Street in Victoria. This will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and serve as an open discussion. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. 

JULY 19 

FARMERS MARKET — The Kenbridge Farmers Market will be open on Saturday, July 19. That’ll take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The market is held on East Fifth Avenue, just across from the Kenbridge Recreation Center. 

MEDITATION AT THE LIBRARY – The Meditation for Busy People class will meet on Saturday, July 19 at the Victoria Public Library, located at 1517 7th Street. It will run from 9 am to 10 am. Attendees will experience research-based meditation practices for relaxation and wellness of body, mind, emotions and spirit, which easily fit into a busy schedule. Beginners are welcome. CAR CLUB – The Heart of Virginia Classic Car Club will meet on Saturday, July 19 from 5 p.m. to dusk in the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. Bring your classic or antique car to show. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. 

MUSIC IN THE PARK — The Town of Victoria’s planned Music in the Park for Saturday, July 19 has been canceled due to the weather forecast. Severe thunderstorms are expected to come through the area in the afternoon and into the evening hours.

JULY 20 

SUNDAY WORSHIPVictoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold Sunday worship services on Sunday, July 20. Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom will deliver the message.

WOMEN’S DAY – Saint Matthew’s Baptist Church in Kenbridge will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, July 20, during the 10:30 a.m. service. Dr. Sharon Stanislas, superintendent of Lunenburg County Public Schools, will be the guest speaker. Women are asked to wear pastel colors.

HOMECOMING – Friendship Baptist Church, located at 6351 South Hill Road in Kenbridge, will hold homecoming services on Sunday, July 20, beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Elmus Morgan Jr. will deliver the message.  

WOMEN’S DAY – Zion Hill Baptist Church, located at 1197 Burkeville Road, will hold Women’s Day services on Sunday, July 20 at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Marcia Jennings of New Witt Baptist Church in Farmville. 

HISTORIC DEDICATION – The Lunenburg County Historical Society will dedicate its permanent headquarters and research library on Sunday, July 20. That’ll begin at 2 p.m. at the site of St. Luke’s Church, located at 409 N. Broad Street in Kenbridge. 

AA MEETING – There will be an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on Sunday, July 20 at Saint Paul and Saint Andrew Episcopal Church. That’s located at 512 Broad Street in Kenbridge. The meetings run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. 

JULY 22 – JULY 24 

REVIVAL Friendship Baptist Church, located at 6351 South Hill Road in Kenbridge, will hold revival services from Tuesday, July 22 through Thursday, July 24. Guests will include Pastor Clifton Threat and Mt. Hermon Baptist Church on Tuesday, Pastor Earl Jarrell and Popular Mount Baptist Church on Wednesday and Pastor Waverly Brown Sr. and Rosebud Baptist Church on Thursday. Services will be at 7 p.m. nightly. 

JULY 23 – JULY 25

REVIVAL – New Grove Baptist Church will hold revival from Wednesday, July 23 through Friday, July 25. That’ll begin at 7 p.m. with prayer and praise services. Rev. Michael Brown from Mayflower Baptist Church will be the guest preacher. Multiple choirs and ushers will serve. 

JULY 25

AA MEETING – There will be an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on Friday, July 25 at the Victoria Public Library, located at 1417 7th Street in Victoria. This will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and serve as an open discussion. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. 

JULY 27

HOMECOMING – First Baptist Church will hold a homecoming service on Sunday, July 27 during the 11 a.m. service. The church is located at 821 Lunenburg Avenue in Victoria.

JULY 27 – JULY 30 

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Vacation Bible School arrives for Kenbridge Baptist Church later this month. The church, located at the corner of 5th and Grace Street in Kenbridge, will hold VBS from Sunday, July 27 to Wednesday, July 30. That’ll take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night for children ages 5 and up. The theme will be “Fruits of the Spirit”. 

JULY 28 – JULY 30 

REVIVAL – First Baptist Church, located at 821 Lunenburg Avenue in Victoria, will hold revival services from July 28 through July 30. Rev. Herbert Holly from St. John Baptist Church in McKenny will deliver the message. 

AUG. 3

FOOD DISTRIBUTION – Victoria Church of the Nazarene, located at 1404 6th Street in Victoria, will hold a food distribution on Sunday, Aug. 3, beginning at 12:30 p.m. This is a first come, first serve event.
