Victoria native Gene Berry has 70 watercolor paintings of various subject matter on display at the Victoria Public Library this month.
Berry grew up attending school in Victoria and now lives in Chesterfield. However, he still comes to the area often with work in Meherrin.
“My main objective is to have interested folks, and particularly students, to look at the paintings for smiles, reflections on life, etc,” said Berry.
“All my works are practice pieces of whatever I see wherever. I do not sell anything. Having folks look is my pay.”
Berry has been painting for five years and the October exhibit is his third showing at Victoria Public Library.
Berry says that he practices painting on a regular basis, including during a weekly meeting held at a Chesterfield church.
“We try various subject matter to improve our skills — sometimes the same subject, but mostly whatever we choose,” he said.
The Victoria Public Library says they are excited about Berry’s art and having it showcased their this month.
