A South Hill woman is reportedly recovering in a hospital, but is also charged, following a single-car crash on Route 635 (Oral Oaks Road) less than a mile south of Route 644 (Gary Road).

According to Virginia State Police (VSP) spokesperson Corinne Geller, the crash happened around 10:31 a.m. Nov. 30.

Geller said a 2004 Honda Accord was traveling south on Oral Oaks Road near the Gary community when it ran off the left side of the road. The driver reportedly overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to cross over the road, run off the left side and overturn.

Geller said the driver, Sandy H. Cothran, 39, of South Hill, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

“She was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries,” Geller said in an email.

Geller said Cothran is charged with reckless driving and that speed was a factor in the crash.

She said VSP Trooper S.E. Hudson is investigating the crash.
